of Mopeds/Scooters, bikes, tandems, kiddie carts, helmets,

Are there dress code in the restaurants?
Being a beach town, casual attire is acceptable, however,
if you would like to "live it up" by all means,
feel free!

I heard that the mosquitos
are sometimes annoying?
Chincoteague Island regularly sprays for mosquitos, and
they are rarely a problem on Chincoteague, however, we
suggest using some type of insect repellant on Assateague's
trails. Due to the endangered animals which make their
home on Assateague Island, spraying is not allowed. |

Is the Beach Wheelchair Accessible?
Yes, please call the Refuge at (757) 336-6577 to obtain a
reservation permit for a beach wheelchair.
Can you drive on the beach?
Yes, provided you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and obtain
the necessary permits from the Refuge Visitor Center, and
are also equipped with all required safety equipment. Contact

Can I have a bonfire on the
Beach?
Yes, provided you obtain the proper permit from the Refuge
Visitor Center. Contact them at (757) 336-6577.
Can I bring my pet along to
the Beach?
No. Pets are not allowed, not even in your car.

Beach?
No, all food items must be carried on.
Are there any tours on the
refuge?
Yes there are several tours available from guided bird walks
to a tour tram which runs 7 days a week, May - September call
